Students from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Geospatial and Space Technology, on 29th  June 2023, conducted an educational tour to the Kenya Navy Fleet at Mtongwe Base in Mombasa County.

The visit was aimed at familiarizing the students with industrial aspects of Hydrographic Survey, Satellite Techniques related to Geospatial Engineering and Nautical Charts.

During the visit, the 44 students attended a brief session at the Kenya Navy Maritime Operations Center where they were apprised by Captain Mwikali on Hydrography in the Kenyan context with a bias of its role in training and securing the kenyan waters..

The students were then hosted onboard Kenya Navy Ship Galana for a trip to the sea and briefed on the mechanisms of Maritime Engineering before proceeding for a sea ride and also were exposed to the simulator (bridge).
