For the past 25 years, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have transformed
how we perceive, navigate, and shape our planet. GIS Week is a global
celebration that recognizes the power of GIS technology to drive innovation and
solve real-world challenges. Each year, the University of Nairobi, through the
Department of Geospatial Engineering and Space Technology and the
Geospatial Engineering Students Association (GESA), has successfully organized
this event with the support of our partners. In 2024, we celebrate 25 Years of GIS
Excellence, reflecting on the immense impact GIS has had on society.
THEME: Mapping Minds, Shaping the World
This year’s theme emphasizes the transformative power of GIS technology, the
role it plays in addressing global challenges, and its ability to bring together
individuals, organizations, and communities. By leveraging spatial data, we can
foster positive change, explore sustainable solutions, and create a better future
for our world. It celebrates the synergy between human creativity and
technological advancement.
