Under the BWS Cognitive Geomatics Project a summer school was organized and it took place at Hochschule Karlsruhe – University of Applied Sciences (HKA) on 17-24 Sep 2023 with 21 participants from the three participating universities.
Major goal was to test the material developed at HKA, University of Pretoria and University of Nairobi so far, involving both target groups – lecturers and students. The Kenyan team was particularly developing teaching/ learning tool and materials on ground truthing aspect.
Reflection included the materials’ potential usage at the three universities and, due to mixed student groups, the learning of how sense of place differs between cultures. Overall, the intensive occupation with the teaching/ learning resources lead to ideas for further enhancing the tools. Besides, the summer school was also about getting to know Karlsruhe and Nordbaden (incl. excursions to the Black Forest and Heidelberg) as a unique opportunity for some.
The mutual learning about the partner universities added to raising interest in a potential study stay abroad, while the intercultural exchange helped in stimulating appreciation for other societies or even in forming international friendships. Overall, the event acted as an eye-opener in regard to the value of international cooperation in education and training.Readmore
