Abstract
Noise pollution is a growing concern in rapidly urbanizing African cities. UrbanEar leverages crowdsourcing to collect real-time noise data, helping researchers and policymakers understand acoustic patterns and their impact on communities.
Excessive noise can disrupt sleep, increase stress, affect concentration, and contribute to long-term health issues. In cities like Nairobi and Kigali, where urban growth is rapid, understanding noise distribution is essential for sustainable development. Traditional monitoring methods are expensive and limited in coverage — that's where citizen science comes in.
