First female PhD earner and Associate Professor in the Geospatial field in Kenya.She  is currently the Chairperson of the department  of Geospatial and space technology University of Nairobi, the first female to hold the position. She has done pioneering work in the mentorship of women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).She featured on the kenyan daily nation on 8th March 2021 during international women's day as one who is using her leadership and experience to narrow the gender disparities in the profession.

Conguering the world:Prof.Karanja is not just the first female to chair the department of Geospatial and space technology at the University of Nairobi ,but she is also the first professor in the department and the school of Engineering who purposes to create more masterpieces.
