Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students

Recently, the global finals and summer camp of the 25th “Chinese Bridge” - Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students were held in China, drawing 157 contestants from 137 countries across the globe. After fierce competition, Miriam Achieng Kenyatta, a Geospatial Engineering student in the Department of Geospatial and Space Technology, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nairobi, and a Chinese learner at the university’s Confucius Institute (CIUoN), earned a spot among the world’s top 15. This marks the best‑ever performance by a Kenyan contestant in the “Chinese Bridge” Competition, representing another historic breakthrough following Naomi Thuo’s top‑30 finish in the global finals last year.

This global top‑15 achievement not only reflects Miriam’s solid Chinese‑language competence and outstanding all-round performance, but also provides strong evidence of the effectiveness of Chinese‑language education at CIUoN. Moving forward, drawing on events such as the “Chinese Bridge” competition, CIUoN will keep focusing on cultural communication and talent cultivation.
