The industrial trip happened on 2 october 2025.On a Thursday morning our students arrived at the ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology headquaters in Kasarani. After a quick security stop, they  were let in to the beautifully manicured grounds.

Refreshingly punctual, we began the day with a friendly and enthusiastic welcome by registration overseen by Ms. Mumba.

Settling into the Hive Room, it took only a quick round of introductions for us to get the ball rolling. A brief overview of the important work carried out by ICIPE by Dr. Abdel-Rahman, was followed by a series of brief, informative and interactive presentations by the lovely quartet Mr. Mong'are, Ms. Wangu, Ms. Onditi and Mr. Kanji.

It seemed only a flash before our gracious moderator, Mr Juma, wa ushering us outside to take a commemorative photo.

After tea break, punctually as always, Mr. Mong'are once again extended us his services by demonstrating some Remote Sensing equipment. In no time, we were in the Fitotron lab under the guidance of the charismatic Dr. Sokame and his team who showcased a special piece of equipment that could imitate preset atmospheric conditions for a select amount of time; a ready tool for experimental studies.

Then, it was Dr. Tanga who led us to the insectary where we learnt about crickets and locusts and their various functions and benefits. Did you know that cricket is a rich source of protein?

That, unfortunately was the final session for the day, and we headed to the gazebos to rest and reflect on the day's activities, hoping of course to return soon.
